This class will focus on developing and creating books that incorporate ambiguity and multiple readings, through a combination of content and book structure. The class will consist of demos and model-building of a range of structures that can be read or viewed in several different physical orders or paths. These include: dos á dos books, French door bindings, gate folds, pages that throw up or down, combination structures, and others. Students will be encouraged to incorporate their own existing work or to make new work for which these structures are appropriate. This class is geared towards artists working in printmaking, drawing, paper cutting, and other 2D art forms. No bookmaking experience required.
