Paste papers are a form of decorative paper used by bookbinders going back hundreds of years. They are colorful, versatile, and fun to make. Made by mixing paint with paste, we will create a variety of pulled, combed, and painted designs that can range from historical to inventive. Students will learn a handful of traditional patterns and techniques before exploring their own ideas. These papers can then be used in future bookbinding, or in other forms of print and collage work.

Level 1 class, open to all levels.

EJ Youcha is a bookbinder and multimedia artist. After many years spent dabbling in everything from oil painting and watercolors to drag performance and puppetry, they studied bookbinding at the North Bennet Street School, graduating in 2023. They now run Pashariko Bookbinding out of a studio in Downtown Boston, where they take commissions for unique bindings, edition work, and book repair. EJ loves to explore history, pattern, color, texture, and adornment as they create.
