Pushing Paper: Exploring Drawing & Collage
Pushing Paper: Exploring Drawing & Collage
With Nancy Gruskin
2 days, Saturday and Sunday
July 26th & 27th, 10 AM – 4 PM
Cost: $300 + $10 materials fee
12 participants maximum
Through a series of drawing and collage exercises, we will see how far we can push our work on paper. We will begin by making drawings based on direct observation of a
variety of sources. These drawings will become the raw materials for new works, as we cut, reassemble, collage, and draw some more. By daring to alter and repurpose our drawings, we will discover that the whole is often greater than the sum of its parts!
Demonstrations along with discussions of the work of other artists will supplement the exercises in this two-day workshop. Participants will be provided with drawing paper, a black Derwent Inktense block for drawing, and colored construction paper for collage, but should feel free to bring their own papers and drawing tools.
Participants should also bring:
-Glue for collage (glue stick, white glue, or gel medium)
-Scissors
-A small plastic container for holding water
Optional materials to bring:
-Previous works on paper (e.g., drawings, paintings on paper, prints) and/or purchased and found papers to use for collage
-Black and/or colored drawing tools (e.g., colored pencils, multi-colored Inktense blocks or hard pastels, ink & pen/brush).
All levels welcome.
