The practice of layering involves slowing down one’s printing process to carefully examine each visual element and understand its unique contribution to the overall image. Working in layers allows for a deeper grasp of visual language — mark-making, value, texture, form, and composition—, while offering time to carefully consider each stage of the printmaking process.

In this workshop, participants will revisit the fundamentals of visual language through the lens of printmaking, focusing on monoprint techniques. These techniques include additive, reductive, texture offset, masks/stencils, color interaction, and overlays.
Additional drawing and hand-coloring is fostered and present another opportunity to expand the printed outcomes.
